sealing under upvc windows

As the title says, I can feel a draft coming in just between the window boards and window frame. I went outside and can see a slight gap (approx 5mm) at the bottom just where the window sits on the sill. The weep holes are on the front of the window frame. Is it OK to seal this gap with builders silicone, or is it required for drainage?

Do you have any other ventilation in the room?

If not it's a terrible idea to seal it as it will create immediate moisture problem and then eventually mold

I have an open/close vent on the wall and all of the windows have trickle vents on top. My sitting room leads open plan into a conservatory, so that's a lot of windows, and draughts of this type are a problem. The room is very cold, and it shouldn't be as it is a new build with good levels of insulation. Just trying to stop the draughts

Ah okay. If you are vented then I would spray foam beneath the window to close the gap outside.

Then remove the window board inside. Put in airtight tape under the sill to window and replace the board.

There are various airtight tapes. Contega is great albeit a bit pricey around 32 euro but get 25 meters for that.

Contega SL. TJ OMahoneys stock it

Thanks for that. Not sure how I could get foam under there, gap is only around 5 mm. My boards are pretty well fixed down. Not sure it would be worth taking them up? Could I caulk between board and window frame and seal it internally or are you running risk of condensation and mould there too. Thanks for the replies.

Tbh it's worth pulling the board up. Doing it right and fixing it back you can repaint them.

Otherwise you'll always have a draught in the room at the windows. It would annoy me enough
