I am due to renew my aa policy for €290. However my bank of Ireland comprehensive policy has breakdown assist.

Should I renew the AA policy or save the money? I drive to and from work in rural Ireland 20km in each direction and the occasional weekend journey.

    You pay 290 for breakdown???

I got it online for €45 with Axa and not insured with them.

If you have cover why would you need 2 companies to do the one job.

Id say 290 is his insurance premium

AA breakdown cover can be quite comprehensive compared to what an insurer will cover. Example: a relative had the gearbox go in Cashel, lives in Clare. The insurance company covered bringing it to a garage further away from home and didn’t cover getting home, luckily a passenger had an expensive enough aa policy which covered getting the car back to Clare to the local garage even though it wasn’t their car.
Obviously not all aa policies are the same.

Also AA repair about 90% of breakdowns at the roadside as they are trained mechanics - Most other breakdown cover is just a tow to the nearest garage to the breakdown location.
