Fuel pressure problem/alternator?

My Ford Fiesta 2005 is giving me a lot of issues the last month. It was cutting out, having issues starting etc so took to local garage. They said it was likely the battery which hadn't been replaced in 3 years so they put a new one in.

Issue still didn't go away, infact got worse. Took back to garage 3 weeks later, they do a diagnostics test. Say it's likely the alternator...however after keeping the car over weekend they say it's freeze/ spark plugs, and there was a leak with coolant tank which needed to be drained. (This job alone cost 350....never heard of freeze plugs) apparently it's a common repair for time of year with Fiesta's. I was due to drive car a long distance but mechanic told me not to, as car was not roadworthy. So paid for the repairs...Next day, same issues with starting/cutting out, rev counter fluctuating between 1-2 and cutting out totally.

The car has been in all week again, mechanic saying it may be fuel pressure problems. Have been clear that the car is not worth the cost of these repairs. I have no knowledge of DIY and not sure what to do at this point, don't want to spend one more cent and I'm getting very fed up of garage.

You have every right to rake your car out of that garage if they are charging you for work that is not solving the original problem. Don't pay them another cent as they clearly are struggling to diagnose your problem, at great expense to you. Whereabouts are you based? May be able to recommend a good garage...

no I wasn't saying anything to you but I know very few batteries that need to be changed after 3 years in Ireland. Ireland is generally a cool country so batteries last quite well here.

The fact that they went to "your battery hasn't been changed in three years" would immediately have had me questioning them.. Did they do any sort of voltage testing of the battery?

Was charging around 13.2volts, although issue was still there when they replaced the battery

of course it was because the battery wasn't the problem

2nd time they said the leak was in the area around the spark/freeze plugs causing misfire. The car is still shuddering/ vibrating when idle. They came back saying aux belt needing replacing also and were so kind to remind me on my invoice to replace it asap and the coolant bottle which is 85euro.
