Is this the Declan Pierce thing? If so no one as it's on midnight till 2 and the station has been shutting up shop for the night at midnight the last couple of years

I spoke about it already on the "Declan Pierce on Today FM" thread. We could merge the two if the admin feels it's the right thing to do.

I don't think there has been a dedicated dance show on Today FM since the early days of what was then called Radio Ireland. It was presented by Mark Kavanagh on Saturday nights /Sunday mornings. It was replaced in the autumn of 1997 with a love songs show called Between the Sheets presented by Jon Troy! They were two very different types of music shows with very different types of audiences! Mark Kavanagh was very much involved with the dance scene, being one-half of The Sound Crowd and co-owner of Irish dance record label Red Records - the other half was Tim Hannigan, aka Mr. Spring of 2FM! Both had dance shows on pirate radio previously!

So now it appears it's gone full circle 20 years later! I don't think Declan Pierce was actively involved in the dance scene like Mark Kavanagh, but about 20 years ago he would have been a presenter on dance pirate Pulse FM!

I wonder has the Friday night listenership gone up/down since Friday night 80s was axed ?

Kelly Ann Byrnes weekend shows on Today FM are always decent. Even for somebody like me who doesnt go 'clubbing' hardly ever anymore!

You have a point but her show is not a pure dance show. In fact, she tends to play a lot of '70s disco, along with a mix of some other related music such as soul music, although it's a while since I heard her show. Nothing wrong with her show as such but it's not quite the same concept. I'm assuming this new dance show will be a bit like Mark Kavanagh's in that it will be playing the club scene stuff since the '90s - very different beast from '70s disco!
