    Hi TechnoFreek,

    Thanks for your message.

There is no specific limit for water hardness under the Irish Drinking Water Regulations.

For further information in relation to water hardness, visit our website here. You may also wish to visit our Drinking Water Quality section of the website to see what parameters we test for in your area. This section is available here.

I hope you find this information helpful.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again should you have any further queries.

    Kind regards,
    Micheal

Thanks Michael. Just was wondering are there approx hardness measurements. It's for the purpose of choosing appropriate fish for a fish tank rather than drinking by humans!

    Hi TechnoFreek,

Water hardness is generally expressed as mg/l CaCO 3 units, although other units can be used. The following is one of several arbitrary classifications of waters by hardness:

    Soft > 50mg/l CaCO3,

    Moderately Soft 51-100 mg/l CaCO3,

    Slightly Hard 101-150 mg/l CaCO3

    Moderately Hard 151-250 mg/l CaCO3

    Hard 251-350 CaCO3

    Excessively Hard over 350 mg/l CaCO3

I hope you find this information helpful.

    Kind regards,
    Micheal

Thanks Micheal. Sorry for the confusion but are such readings in file and available for Arklow?
I don't see them on the water report I downloaded.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

    Thanks for your message.

Unfortunately, we do not supply water hardness readings for individual areas or counties. It is advised that water in the eastern part of the country varies between the Moderately Hard to Hard. The information provided is based on general data collated and are provided as guidelines.

Please let us know if you have any further queries.

    Kind regards,
    Micheal
