Ive just had walls and ceilings plastered in my house so in around a week or so when they are dry i'll need to start sealing them before i put a finish coat of paint on them.
Ive been told 50-50 emulsion and water and give it a couple of coats to seal the walls/ceilings?

50-50 is fine. You might get away with just the one wash coat. I did my whole cottage, ceilings and walls and only used the one coat. Make sure the skim coat is dry though, especially in corners.
