    Hi Guys,

I am looking for the best of of doing this.

I want to setup wifi over a large 3 floor area this does have cat5 cabling.

Internet is from Virgin with their standard wifi router, which way should I do this.

Should Virgin router go into a switch first or into a Netgear Nighthawk?

    I have a second nighthawk

    Vigrin-Swith-Nightawk

    Vigin-Nighthawk-Swith

Also how can I setup wifi- is it possible to use the same wifi name or should they be different?

    Option A:

    Hub 3.0 Routing
    Nighthawk 1 AP Mode
    Nighthawk 2 AP Mode

    - Slightly simpler to setup
    - Gives you 3x transmitters
    - Less network controls

    Option B:

    Hub 3.0 Modem Only
    Nighthawk 1 Router
    Nighthawk 2 AP Mode

    - Nighthawk does all the routing controls (nicer UI and probably better performance)
    - 2x transmitters (should be enough for most 3 stories)

    With wifi you do:
All 2.4Ghz SSIDs the same, eg defib24 and password the same
All 5Ghz SSIDs the same, eg defib5 and password the same
    ** each on a different channel (1, 4, 7, 10 for 2.4)

Clients will roam ok, sometimes they might stick to the wrong one for a little while but usually they're pretty good.

    So

    Hub 3.0 Modem Only
    Nighthawk 1 Router
    Nighthawk 2 AP Mode

But should the switch for 10 cat5 be after the router or before or does it matter?

After Nighthawk 1. But do you really need 10 Cat5 cables patched in....

Those ports fill up quick man, especially when you've dual NIC + BMC :pac:
