Also live on BBC Two Scotland for anyone who'd prefer an English language commentary.

Scottish ref pretty concerned that Scotland win if you ask me. Might not be a bad idea to have one half refereed by a Scot and another refereed by an Irishman. Ireland wasteful in front of goal but having to solo all the time is not easy.

how come the squads are always made up of mostly players from lower tier hurling counties ??? is it they find it easier to play the ball on the ground

    A rediculous game.

    Refereed in a rediculous manner.

From a brief watch the ref seems a bit of a homer. Just gave Scotland a free in front of the goal for a push in back that was extremely generous to say the least. Also do you get 2 points for a simple free?

And another hands in the back free from the ref. Scottish player looked like he just slipped.

Not that being from a lower tier county necessarily means you're a lower category hurler but generally it's to level things up. The thinking is top level hurlers would be too much for the Scots given the different standards of fitness etc. attached to the two sports. It's also a lack of interest as hurling shinty doesn't have the same appeal to top players as the football Aussie rules does.

I think it has generally been an OK match but has been refereed by a man who has made it clear he wants his team to win. He's jumped on Ireland for every little thing and left Scotland away with a lot; he went so far as to threaten to send off an Ireland player for a scandalous tackle made by a Scot. The way he's spoken to a lot of the Irish players too has been less than respectful.

They appear to get two points for scoring a free straight off the ground whereas a free which is scored by lifting and striking is only a point. Bit of an advantage for Scotland as striking off the ground is a fundamental part of their sport. Fair play to Scotland though, they took their scores much better.
