Have sky plus box downstairs i'm looking to get a freeview box with recording function for upstairs bedroom. Is it possible to run 2 sky boxes off one dish? Ie 2 devices which can record

On a standard dish this is not a problem. With Sky Q it is not possible afaik.

Best option is probably to get a satellite switch. Feed that with the four outputs from a quad or quattro lnb (you'll probably have to upgrade this part of your dish).
This will enable you to feed eight satellite tuners independently so you'll have plenty of room t expand later.
The simpler solution would be to replace your lnb with a four output one.

Yes, how many outputs does the lnb have on the dish, 4 required for 2 recorders. If your current LNB has only 2 outputs it can be swapped over for a quad/4 output type.

I'm not too sure tbh. Would it cost me much to get a tv installation man to do this for me?

Don't know, I do my own. Best option is to contact a local installer for a quote.

A quad lnb can be had for about 20e, where is your dish, can you access it safely. The same dish should be OK, that's often the hard part, don't move the dish. Swap the lnb and run the cable, if you are comfortable doing that type of thing, if not, make a call. There are videos online that will give you an idea of what's involved.

If the dish is the standard type used by Sky installers, it will already be fitted with a quad LNB, & so able to support 2 twin-tuner boxes.

You'll just need the cables run & terminated.
