Didn't see any other posts about it but as was off work yesterday I read about the launch of Huawei's Mate series. Must say I quite like the looks of the basic Mate 10 so might consider it to replace my aging LG G4 at the start of next year once there are some reviews.

Hands-on with the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro

The Pro doesn't have a headphone jack either.
Seems to be a powerful enough phone and the camera should be good too. One to watch and will be upgrading from the P9 as well.

What did you think of the P9 overall?

Don't get the Pro version as it has no headphone jack, no microsd slot & a lower resolution screen (albeit oled) and costs more €.

It has 128gb space and 6gb ram but I agree, the no headphone jack is frustrating.

I get the feeling we will see type C headphones soon ,
Been rumoured for a while that jack's would be replaced with just a type C connection for charging and headphones ,

I love the P9 I'm currently 98% full memory and it's still flying along ,it's got pretty heavy use since I got it heading for 2 years now ,
The camera is fantastic on it which was one of the main reason for buying originally .

I would have said the same. But there's loads of themes available to help with that. I use Nova launcher anyway and between the two it's quite slick on the P10. It did take some messing to get it right.

It would be funny if it wasn't true Huawei have been talking about dropping the jack for a while and using a single connection for charging , earphones and other accessories

Im laughing at the fact your saying it like its news. Its not a new concept. There will be usb c headphones in the box btw. The htc u11 and ultra before it are usb c only and came with usb c headphones. The new google pixels are usb c only too.

Apologies im a bad mood tonight.

Iv the u11 and iv become quiet used to usb c only. I know a issue some bring up is charging and listening to music at the same time but with android returning to descent battery performance and quick charge technology its never been an issue for me. And I use bluetooth in the car.

The camera on the Pro has done well. Only a point behind the Pixel 2 which is the highest rated phone.

Edit: Seems the camera is the same on both the pro and the non pro version.

Having read through the spec sheet it seems the non pro version might suit me better. Headphone jack and expandable storage are a huge draw for me.

That was my thinking as well, the standard version look like the better choice.

Apologies if this has been asked already but are any of the Irish providers stocking either version? Had high hopes for the LG V30 but reviews have been disappointing. This looks like it might be a runner as my upgrade.

So... less thaan a month to upgrade ville

For those using the mate 10 pro... any real negatives?

Im dissapointed theres no wireless charging.

The headphone jack wouldnt bother me as have bluetooth headphone any way

Is the battery as good as youtube review would have you believe?

I have it 2 months now, upgraded from my oneplus2. Battery is like night and day compared to previous. I tend to be fairly heavy user for battery historically and this is the fist phone that has gotten me through day reliably since I had a HTC Touch.

As I travel good bit, I got the Huawei 10,000mAh supercharge powerbank and a car supercharger. Never had to use the powerbank yet, but have occasionally charged on the 20min drive to the airport and never been concerned about running out of battery.

It is certainly feasible to not charge at night and deliberately only charge to 80 or 90% to protect battery over time.

My only slight gripes are that if I set alarm via Google assistant it doesn't always work and as to be expected there are some Huawei ecosystem apps - although they are not too intrusive

    Actually ... another question ...

My missus has a P10 and has issues with the camera not focusing and its brutal for dropping calls...

Any such issues on the mate 10 pros?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 ham hock

I am using Mate 10 pro for the last few months and had no issues.  Battery is the best I have had on any phone and regularly lasts into the next day.  Camera is also excellent and haven't noticed any dropped calls.
If the P10 is having issues the camera focusing you should send it in for repair - maybe the camera module is faulty?

I'm thinking of going for the non-pro Mate 10 once the price drops a bit more, currently the 128Gb/6Gb version is going for £489 on Wonda Mobile (where lots of people seem to get them) so if it edges down to ~£400 suspect I'll bite.

Keep an eye on these guys as well, I got my P10 plus from them last July, saved about €220 on it compared to Voda or Three locally at the time.
