    Hi
I bought a vw Passat 2 years ago from a main dealer but only found out today when I went to trade it in it was wrote off as a cat D. Have I any comeback with the dealer as now I have a new car with a deposit on it but they don't want my car as a trade in?? Help!?

Unbelievable carry on from a main dealer.

I'd be threatening to sue unless they refund the full price that was paid.

They are obligated to disclose if the car was written off before the sale.

A lot of people are not comfortable driving Cat D write-off cars even after they have been assessed and declared roadworthy

    Is it a different dealer?

Worth running your own check to be sure.

Most definitely worth taking it up with the dealer that sold you it - I'd be fairly sure they wouldn't want it known that they sold a car like that.

Go straight back to the dealer, I'd also be expecting them to take the car off you now for the deposit you need.

A category D write-off is often a minor damage that was repaired. It may have been deemed uneconomical to repair at the time but was repaired and car returned to road.

This is why it's good to get reports done on any car you buy (although I understand you'd think a dealer would have checked this and told you) as dealers are obliged to tell you everything they know.

Did you already contact the dealer that sold you the car?
