    Irish Field October 14, 2017
Efficient and organised person required with an in-depth knowledge of racing and the ability to work under pressure.
The role involves entries and declarations, communicating with owners, transport arrangements and a variety of other duties on a day to day basis.
Availability required for weekend/bank holiday work.

Forumites this is your chance to help Irelands top trainer out of his slump of only 24 Group 1 wins this year.
Unfortunately the first word eliminates me - "Efficient" :)

My not very organised work area back in Feb 2013, a very wide table.
Blood Horse Stallion Registers bottom right, Weatherbys Statistical Record books on top.
Eight colour prints of Mr Prospector's pedigree - my mouse mat.
PC system unit in background, back up external drive in front.

I'm still looking for a good way to light up a book without lighting up the computer screen, or the light getting in the way.

    USB reading light?
That old PC (7 yrs+) is a bit short of USB slots, but is the PC I use all the time.
Today I got a new green and white keyboard for it.
I bought another PC a year ago that is 3x faster but only use it to crunch big pedigree tasks.
USB reading light sound like laptop stuff but I am open to all ideas.

Are you directly involved in the industry (without going it) or is it just a hobby?

Just a hobby. I was an accountant in industry.

I was always a punter/racegoer looking to go beyond what you read in the papers or "information".
When I retired in 2006 (age 56) there was more time to do what I wanted - analyse pedigrees.
The three other walls in that room above have bookcases filled with stud books, pedigree analysis books, biographies.
The filing cabinet on the right had to be moved out for another bookcase.
Books can be expensive. This week it is General Stud Book 48 costing UK391.

The goffs.ie Breeding Stock catalogue will be online this Friday (sale 23/24 Nov).
I will load the sales lots into my database with a view to buying an inexpensive mare (or at tattersalls uk / arqana france in Nov/Dec).

First the mare has to be inexpensive (under 10k).
I will analyse all the broodmare lots to see if they have reasonable broodmare pedigrees, some racing ability, descend from a mare line with some racing ability.
Then I will produce "foals" by test-mating all the sales mares with all the sires in IRE, GB, FR, and pick out the best in theory
e.g. if 500 mares are on sale and there are 450 stallions at stud that is 500 x 450 = 225,000 possibles.
The idea is to breed the foal in theory before buying the broodmare.
Most of those possibles will be off limits due to mare cost and sire fee cost.
This might be my first and last roll of the dice.
