We have two six month old Siberian pussy cats who are as hairy as they are lovely. I am however at my wit's end trying to find a cat litter that they like, doesn't track or fill my house with dust, and doesn't stink to high heaven after a single use.

What have you lovely people found to be helpful?

They are indoor only cats and are using a massive storage container from Tesco as their loo as they quickly outgrew the regular sized litter boxes.

We've not used litter for a long time (they climb to the garden these days) but I do remember Catsan was the best of the bunch that I tried back then. The litter tray was more of a box with a top section on it, the cats entered via a hole at the side. I can't say there was ever an issue with dust and it definitely took a while before I noticed any smell.

Try breeder celect. It’s wood pellet based. I use the small animal version for my hamster as it seems to mask the smell

I used the wood pellets the type used for heating, I got them from a local hardware shop in a big 15kg bag I think. Smells nice, doesn't track too badly unless you leave it for ages, and can be composted in your garden, just flush the poop and hey presto!:)

I’ve found it’s either one or the other in my experience, low tracking or no smell. At the moment I’m idols Oko worlds best, it does track, but I get no smell whatsoever which is a big plus considering I’ve to have a litter tray in my bedroom with the kitten.
You can smell it when the first go but once it all absorbs, there’s no smell at all. It also has the bonus of being flushable and compostable!

You need to spend money if you don't want a smell. 'World's best' is brilliant. We use a half and mix of Catsan and world's best. World's best is almost 50euro a bag so if we change the litter 4 times a month, it basically uses a full bag of world's best and 15litres of Catsan.

We have no cat smell issues apart from instantly after pooing.

If you order from zooplus it’s only €35 a bag ;)

Forgot to say, we buy 12.7kg bags of world's best for 35euro from zooplus. Much cheaper than buying in your petshop. Well worth it, you'll never go back. Mixing with Catsan will drastically lower your costs ;)

Having spent a fortune on every possible brand of litter the wood pellet type is the only one that doesn't stink for me. Really cheap and easy to clean too.

Wow responsible cat owners, wish you lived round near me so I didn’t have to mop up all the local cat poo out of my garden every few days.

Are your cats indoor and outdoor?

think it is called Morrissons it is a wood pellet litter. I find it very good, now it does get out of the tray unless you have a cover on it, but barely any smell from it, and very easy to clean. That or Sani Cat

Sorry I was having a really dumb moment and thought you meant you only had to clean the litter four times a month so was thinking they must be mainly outdoors. I realised after that you meant a full clean out/litter change 4 times a month.

    Hi,

I've been hand rearing a 3 week old kitten for the last fortnight, and have recently changed our cat litter to corn based compostable clumping litter.

I understand you can't use clumping litter with kittens (when this one starts to use litter) We used to use Sanicat - would that be ok for the kitten till it's older?

As ever, thanks for the help

Yep, sanicat or Catsan would be perfect for a kitten. Our 6 week old is getting on fine with it :)

The aldi / lidl clumping stuff works grand for us. Our one has a litter in the house and one in her garden enclosure. Never too bad a smell unless its just after she bends out a fresh biscuit.

Shes confined due to having felv.
