Anyone else have problems with this when they call to shop?

I mean have I just literally missed them, and now I have to find something else to do in the meantime. Or do I hang around, hoping they have already been away that time, and will be back in seconds.

Maybe they are a poor timekeeper, or have been held up, and that 15 turns into 20.

Think I'll give them another 5, and then I'm gone home.

    :D

Really is a tiny pet hate of mine!! Just put 'back at 2:15' if you need to run out for 15 minutes at 2pm... trivial but so irritating if there's nothing else around like other shops etc to pass the time waiting in. :p

I haven't seen a sign like that on a shop in 20 years or more - where do you live?

I saw one last week in Nutgrove shopping centre (about a 5 minute drive from Dundrum SC, halfway to Marlay Park where they have that Longitude festival and a bunch of other concerts), straight across from Penney's - think it was an arts and crafts shop. I've seen it at least two more times the last few months with different shops in Nutgrove.

It's fair enough if there's only one person working in the shop and nature calls. I see it locally in Greystones too, most recently on Wednesday in the bmx/skateboard shop opposite the park and it struck me at the time that someone looking to visit the shop would have no idea if the sign had just been put up or if the reopening was imminent.

But I agree, it might be better to put the time of return rather than back in 15 mins!

To me back in 15 minutes is a very Irish way of saying shop closed back when I'm back.

15 minutes is about as long as people will wait so no one is going to put up a sign saying back in 20 minutes because very few people would wait that long.

Where I live those 'Back in 15 minutes' signs on the door means the person working in the shop is 'Gone down the Bookies' . They will be back in 15 minutes, but they'll also be back in a right pain in the hole mood too so better off going elsewheres

Back in 15 minutes actually means the shopkeeper has his assistant bent over the counter and is back scuttling her from behind.

Was that you hammering at the door?

The note said FIVE mins. Not fifteen.

    Anyway. Back now. :)

    I hate the ambiguity.

"Back in 15 mins" - well, how is that helpful? When did you leave? One minute ago or fourteen minutes ago...?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Well that explains it. The missus loves nutgrove, I think it's a kip and avoid it all costs!
Those signs won't bother me Billy:D

Well, can hardly say the below.

"Hi, FYI today I plan on be taking be taking a succession of dumps between 13.24pm and 13.48pm. Apologies for the inconvenience and too much information"

I think shops only do this when they have to and accept that they might lose a small bit of business because of it.

No such thing as bad publicity like, we're on here talking about it sure.

Think if I had a shop I'll call it "Back in 15 Minutes," and I'll have any clocks viewable to customers 15 minutes behind.

It's annoying but, meh, what can ya do. Things come up, shop staff are people too.

You could do yourself one of Jamie’s 15 minute meals, only takes about 2 hours, and surely they’ll be back by then!

    I don't trust those signs.

It's better when they say "closed for <whatnot>, opens again at 3.30pm"
At least then you know what time to come back at.

From having worked in a shop and often been in need of a quiet period for a window for a shite, I can tell you that those signs are ambiguous on purpose.

I don't think I've ever seen one of those signs irl.

Was in England there a while ago and went to go into this restaurant one Sunday and when we got there, the waitress said "sorry, we're closing for lunch"

If they're not back in 15 minutes you're legally entitled to break in and take whatever you like.

I have a "back in five minutes" one for bathroom breaks and trips to get a coffee. Have often been sorely tempted to add "if not, re-read this sign" but better not I guess.

Yeah, but when you answer the phone, "Back in 15 minutes" people are just going to hang up...

I was never one for talking too much on the phone anyhow :)
