Is there a case For an Autonomous Dublin?

With the whole Catalan Independence referendum thing. As Catalonia is an autonomous region from Spain do you think it would be viable for Dublin to become an autonomous region of Ireland. There are many cities around the world that have their own semi-independent goverments. This means Dublin could make some of its own laws aswell as keeping the majority of our taxes locally.

    It could
-Be divided into a number of different constituencies, representing all four Dublin Councils.

-Have its own goverment governing all four councils aswell keeping the current councils for more local affairs.

    Meaning
-Most taxes kept in Dublin meaning more funding could be given to projects suchas Metro North and Dart Underground rather than bypasses and motorways in rural areas

-Dublin could have its own police force to back up the underfunded and resourced Gardai. Many cities across Europe have their own separate police aswell as the national police forces Eg. Berliner Polizei and Bundespolizei.

-More money into Dublin based projects such as housing within Dublin the centre of the housing crisis currently.

-Dublin would have some of its own semi state bodies. Instead of IE, DB and Luas Dublin could have its own transport body separate from the NTA just for Dublin similar to most European cities

-The rest of the country wouldn't be completely would completely abandoned taxes wold be divided up and some will filter out to other parts of the country and if sucessful the rest of the country could follow suit.

    Opinions?

No but it should have a London style mayor with real powers to drive & implement policy rather than the mess of councillors as it is at the moment.

It would have to be a very big case and it would be awkward to carry

    Disaster.

    The death of symbiotic dependence.

If there were autonomous cities the city will thrive, the hinterland will die. Rural can't survive without the city/urban money.

Autonomous cities don't work. That's selfish. Cities are the the economic engines that support and subsidise the rural communities.

in short no . i don't really believe in local government personally, it just means more politicians and hands in the pie. ireland should be subject to 1 common law and common everything. other cities have multiples of the population of this country so your idea probably makes a lot of sense there but not for ireland. dispite what is said dublin does get to keep the vast majority of what it brings in and there is plenty of money to sort it's issues, it's just the political will that is lacking and that wouldn't change if dublin was autonomous. it's government would find things to piss away the money while things that are needed still wouldn't be funded. local governance isn't suitible to british and irish political culture.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.
