Advantages of being a resident for tax

I recently moved to Ireland in October, but since I will be in Ireland for less than 183 days for the 2017 taxation year, I have the option of being a non-resident or resident for tax purposes for 2017. I will be a resident for tax purposes for 2018.

Are there any advantages of choosing to be a resident for tax purposes in 2017?
