Changing 2008 Mondeo for 7 seater on scrappage

I have to change my 2008 Mondeo - it has over 300,000km on it so owes me nothing and the timing belt needs replacing and shocks are about to go. It should get me through until January when I can scrap it.

Have looked at a number of different options and the leader at the minute is the Nissan Xtrail. That said, it will be a 1.5 diesel and a concern is diesels losing value.

Can anyone recommend any hybrids I could consider?

I want to go a 7 seater SUV style vehicle.

This vehicle will also be doing two 90km each way commutes two days a week.

There aren't really any popular hybrid or electric 7 seaters out now that you'll be competing with in a few years time when it comes to trading up again. Electric will take a while to properly catch on so I wouldn't panic too much at this point.

If you're concerned, maybe buy something for €10-15k to do you for a few years?

Mitsubishi have the 7 seater Outlander Phev but it expensive enough. I have always liked the Outlander myself always thought they were a good looking car with a classy interior. Some people here will tell you they are old now and getting on but you really should go and decide on it yourself. Mitsubishi's also come with 8 year warranty as well.

The 7 seater version of the Toyota Prius is the only other 7 seater hybrid I know of but it is an MPV not an SUV so might not be to your liking.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Mitsubishi only come with a 5 year 100k km manufacturers warranty. The distributer provides the rest and extends the mileage limit up to 150k km but it has stringent requirements and the vehicle needs to be presented to a mitsubishi dealer every year for a free health check.

There are lots of exclusion too in the warranty. Timing chains for example are excluded.

Yep, its 50k which makes it 15k more than the Xtrail. There is also no scrappage on the PHEV model it appears.

The Outlander PHEV is not a 7 seater. The battery takes up the back 2 seats. It's a 5 seater.

The Prius+ is a decent option is not really using the back two seats. It's a pity when they done a refresh of the Prius they didn't bother to refresh the +

SMAX Hybrid is supposed to be out next year but expect to be 50k+

I see there is a 7 seater Tiguan called the Allspace. Anyone have info on it?

Here you go. Can order now for next year, but not sure when they will arrive.

Terrible colour choices if you don't want black or grey.

I'd doubt you will get a scrappage scheme on a newly launched model.

I do find it hilarious that VW only have petrol option in the Trendline spec which nobody wants....everything else is bloody diesel.....

I think we'll be going with the Xtrail. The scrappage makes too much sense when I need to bin my own car.

I see they updated the website last night to change their listing of 172 offers to 181s so might start contacting dealers in the next week or two.

Does it not come in a 1.6 Diesel 130bhp? I don't recall it having the older 1.5 Renault Engine. Either way, the 1.6 is a punchy engine and wont struggle at all. Do remember that seat 6 and 7 are about as small as you can get, they really don't get any tighter than the x-trail! For very occasional use with kids, you should be fine.
