Clay yard, very wet in winter, in the process of draining it, have a shore dug out, what should be done next, fill with stones, lay pipes?

To drain rainwater out of the yard, stop it going down through the fields,.

Unless you come on clean gravel at bottom of the trench it'll just fill with water and overflow.
Accepting that, use round stones rather than crushed, crushed are inclined to set together and seal, as for a pipe, don't see much point if it's going no where

    I agree.
What about running the water into a small reed bed in the corner of the field which will filter it also help dry it up.
