Talansky moving to triathlon

In the last month or so Andrew Talansky retired from professional cycling. He has now un-retired and will be competing in triathlon, aiming for Ironman racing. Comes from a running background initially but has said he was a decent level swimmer too when he was younger.

So how likely would he be to trouble the top guys? I don't know much about his results but he seems to have done well in the hillier races, winning a stage on MT Baldy this year. Has a few TT wins during his career too but not sure how strong he would be considered as a TT cyclist. Would a world tour pro like him be levels above what's in long course triathlon at the moment?

Fabian Cancellara didn't have the fastest bike split in the triathlon he did a couple of weeks ago (AFAIK). Talansky won't be troubling the podium for a while.

That the tristar race?? From the little bit of it I seen he done it on a road bike and seemed to be there for the craic rather than anything else. But yep don't expect him to be going straight onto the podium at all, curious though how his bike will stack up against Kienle, Sanders.

OK, see Cameron Wurf for an example of what happens with a pro cyclist turns to tri. Decent pro but not a challenger.

Talansky was considered a good TTer. US National Champ, and had top 10's in Grand Tour TT's. Possibly considered one of the best non-specialists for a while a few years ago? Hard to judge recent years when he dropped weight to go for GC (which he had Grand Tour Top 10's).

No idea how he will go, or his history in other sports. Never really warmed to him as he was always competing with Dan Martin for Garmin leadership!

He's younger than Cancellera (28 v 36), and going straight/ continuing at pro level training potentially at his peak years, so not sure much can be taken how good Cancellera was or wasn't.

Going to be interesting to watch anyway!

All depends on whether he can swim and run!
