2016 Vitara Diesel, oil change warning lights

Can anybody tell me, do I need to go to a Suzuki dealer or would an independent mechanic with up to date software be able to reset it?

It had an oil change around 20k, oil change warning light came on just before it got to 30k, shouldn't be due another change so soon so I gather it wasn't reset when the oil was changed.

This is a pretty annoying bit of programming by Suzuki, first car I've had where the service lights need specialist equipment to reset them.

I'd say any competent independent should be able to reset it.

That said, most garages will be reluctant to reset the service light if they didn't do the service. Can you not take it back to whoever serviced it and ask them to do it?

The OH has a 16 Vitara, she was told oil every 15K - the notice came up at 15 and now at 30 it's coming up again as expected.

    That car is under guarantee.
Would you not take it to a Suzuki dealer in case there is a fault resulting in a claim.

The uk service interval is 12,500 miles (which is as near as makes no fifference 20kkm) wonder if the Irish interval is 15k and if so -why?

And wouldn't the light have come on at 15k?

Wonder if it's an interval light, low oil warning, or oil condition based warning?

There's probably a YouTube video or something on how to reset the light (assuming it's the service reminder not low on oil or something like that).

The car's manual states 20k (kms) for oil change and every 20k after, we had it serviced at 20k, maybe they reset to 30k then but I don't know why they would. I don't know if it has an oil quality sensor or if the warning light is based on time/distance.

The dealer where we bought it has since changed ownership and no longer has the franchise. Dealing with the new people hasn't inspired confidence.

I'll most likely bring it to a Suzuki dealer as it also has an issue I'm hoping they'll fix under warranty and I was planning on getting the fuel filter replaced early too.

I'd like to think I could get an independent mechanic to service it in future though, will I just need to ring around to ask who has the program that can reset it?

The online videos that show how to reset are either on petrol models or not in UK or Ireland. Since the service warning came on, I'm locked out of the hidden settings menu, this is where the oil service warning can be reset/adjusted on some models.

Don't go near an independent while the vehicle is under guarantee. The Main Dealer will have an out if you do.

Is this really the case? Sounds a bit anti-competition. I was of the belief that servicing could be done independently as long as OEM parts are used.

You are correct, a dealer service history may help if you have to claim outside of warranty, or on something border line. If the car is on PCP it may be a condition that servicing is done at the main dealer
