    Hi Guys,

looking at buying a 2008 runaround, price is reasonable from a private seller.

Would you bother with the 25 euro check with cartell?

    Thanks.
    Mick.

Yes. If it's a UK import use HPI.

Thanks Guys, but its already on Irish plates, think I will just bite the bullet and spend the 35 euro on cartel to settle nerves.

Why is buying a car so exciting but so nerve wrecking at the same time?

€35? Do you really need finance check for a 2008 car?

Because it is high value and movable asset...

A car history report alone doesn't tell the whole story around whether a used car is safe to buy especially on older cars. Generally anything over 5 years old tends to loose the full service history as owners don't get their cars serviced at main dealers anymore once the warranty has expired. I'd use a history report as part of background checking as it can help join the dots on patchy information. It's not all singing all dancing by itself though, the car would still need to be checked over by a mechanic or someone very knowledgeable on cars.

Don't think about spending thousands on a car but think twice about a cheap report.

Don't buy a car with your heart, buy with your head.

I was looking at a 2010 volvo v70 the other night on DD, on uk plates in Tyrone. .
It had 115,000 miles in the ad , when I did a quick mot check it had 140k miles up back in Feb. A hpi check showed it had a Santander loan taken out in 2014 which hadn't been paid back.
I contacted DD with my findings and they took the ad down the next morning.

If you’re on the point of buyers by then it’s worth doing.

I did it for a 2003 bangernomic last year. The car looked and drove fine but the seller was giving me a bad vibe and his story wasn't particularly adding up. The report confirmed my suspicions and saved me spending a couple of grand on a lemon.

Short version of the story: 2012 Yaris from a dealer, after a car check it turned out it was in an accident. Dealer said "only a scratch to the wing", inspection by a garage confirmed that it was properly banged up and the chassis was bent.

Even if I just bought a 4 grand car, I'd still get a report. And if I only end up buying the fourth car I look at, and end up paying 4x25€ in the process, that's still money well spent.

What does motorcheck tell you that cartell doesn't?
