    Can you run a 400 in the low 50’s (seconds) by using body weight instead of going to the gym?

    If you are very talented, you can run sub 50 without gym work!

    It's irrelevant though. To get the best out of your talent (whether that's 45, 50, 55, 60 seconds or above) you should be lifting weights in the gym.

    I assume by the title of the thread you are asking about 400m training?

    The 400m is a sprint. An endurance sprint, but a sprint all the same.

    Sorry I meant do you think gym work is a must for 800/1500 runners too?

    I would say so personally. Sure Mo Farah squats in the gym and he's a 5000/10000 runner.
