Getting re-hired after being fired by same company?

Long story short, 5 years ago I posted something really juvenile on social media which resulted in my dismissal. (I nor most others saw it as offensive, rather moreso unprofessional)

Fast forward 5 years and I have been invited to an assessment day for the same company but different position (there are 10 positions up for grabs).

Is my dismissal 5 years ago likely to fly under the radar if I say nothing?

    Thanks

When they input your name and pps number into their employee systems, your details will come up. It would be highly unusual to rehire someone who was previously dismissed.

You were invited, or you applied?

My advice is there are other companies you can work for. You could continue with your application, but you may be disappointed if they (a) discover you were fired during the process or (b) discover you were fired after they hire you

I applied, didn't expect anything to come of it but here we are and based on how I performed previously in my role and how I carried myself in the interview and assessment, I'm 99.9% certain I'll get it, but worried it will be ultimately futile and if I should bother.

    It's a role I REALLY want

You said you hoped to fly under the radar implying you weren't going to disclose you were previously fired.
But if your interviewer and HR already know about that, you've every chance of getting the job.

Are you currently in a job that you will be giving up to work in this company?

If you are I would wait for the job offer to come in (if it does) and then tell them you would love to take up the job offer but before you hand your notice in with current job you want to make sure that they are OK with hiring you given the company previously sacked you.

If you hand in your notice without reminding them of the previous history there is a very good chance they will realise, either just before or just after you start with them, who you are and terminate your employment again. Then you'll be left with no job at all.

When you applied for the job did you send in a CV - if so was that previous position on there? If yes then you didnt hide anything from them and it may come up in the interview that you worked there before and will be asked why you left - the person most likely will not know.

It is unlikely anyone at this stage has gone into detail enough to look up your previous work history - if you are at the stage of references and background checks it may come at this point and be an issue.

Ultimately you know it may be a factor buy why would you not pursue the job anyways and find out rather than just say its futile and give up?

    Thanks guys

Like I said, it was 5 years ago and I was only there for 2 months so I doubt anybody at all will remember me

I'd echo this good advice, and also add that even if they don't find out immediately, you will be ever looking over your shoulder wondering whether they will discover your undisclosed "dirty secret".

Not necessarily, between DPA, system cleanups, upgrades etc... they may have very little on him on line.

    What size is this company?
It's not about anyone remembering you, it's the file in the HR system that more than likely will still exist. Employee files don't get purged ever, if it was 25 years ago maybe a record doesn't exist, but 5 years, there is zero chance that your employee record has been deleted.

You got fired for being immature and now you are hopping they employee you again without knowing they sacked you, looks like nothing has changed in the last 5 years.

If this job is listed on your CV, then nothing to worry about, if you haven't, you should inform them as not doing so is just wasting both of your time. There is more chance of them say the early termination isn't an issue than there is them hiring you, finding out you worked for them when they enter you into their HR system and possibly revoking the job offer as you havent disclosed the fact they already fired you once.
