    Do those discs automatically play in HDR and do you have an HDR compatible TV?

    What you are describing sounds like what happens when you watch HDR content on a non-compatible screen

    Alot of "4k" films are just upscaled from a 2k master.

    Well there's a silver lining the disc came with the 4K disc which was absolute trash but the Blu-ray disc is a great version so not a total loss..
