2009+ car, 5 doors, sub 10sec 0-60, 8k budget

As per title, looking for cars following these criteria:

    2009 or newer
    5 doors a must
    Good safety rating
    Don't really want anything sluggish

And budget up to the 8k mark.

About my driving: below 10k a year, mostly small trips under 10km at a time. Have 1 child, in near future probably 2, so want decent space in back.

Through googling and research I've narrowed it down to cars featuring the vag 1.4tfsi engine. I really like the styling of the previous generation Audi a3 but there seems to be a real lack of petrol models available.

I also like the kia ceed, but I don't know if I could live with the 1.6 diesel, 0-60 in 12.5 sec.

Any engines or cars that I've missed?

Another vote for the civic. Rare enough post 08 but still a few out there. Probably one of the most reliable cars you can buy.
9k is mental for a 2010 that said.

Wow, great shout out to the civic. Missed it completely.

Quick donedeal search comes up with https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/honda-civic-1-8i-se-executive-low-miles/16129214

Googling the model issues now, but is there anything that's a common fault with them?

Dealer sale would be ideal, have a car to trade in.

Another vote for the civic here, as far as I'm aware, no known issue on them.

No major issues on them. On models without panoramic roof, look for rust where the roof meets the windscreen. Radio display can go funny, lose pixels and will be obvious.

Thanks for the advice so far, appreciate it.

Went to have a look at https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/honda-civic-1-8i-se-executive-low-miles/16129214 today, unfortunately it has been in a crash, not really convinced with the repair.

The spec was excellent on it though, and I really like the quirky interior, like you're sitting in a space ship! :)

There don't seem to be many with the 1.8 petrol on donedeal, is it just a case of waiting around for one to pop up?

Both civics listed on this thread have full perspex front grille, which indicated it's from a pre-facelift model before September 2009.
OP confirmed one was in the crash.
I wonder what about other one.
9k for 2010 civic which was in a crash sounds quite ridiculous.

EDIT: I actually had better look at the pictures, and it looks like both cars are just pre facelift models, so even though having 2010 reg must have been manufactured before September 2009.

The cheaper 09 one was the one that was crash repaired, not the 9k 2010 one being sold by a main dealer which seems not badly priced considering the price of the 09.

Both are 2010 reg but both must be manufactured in 2009 or before due to being pre facelift model.

Also I think 9k is mental price for it, considering I have 09 post facelift model diesel for sale for 5k and there no interest whatsoever.

Hard to understand why someone would be willing to add 4k to the price of the car just for the sake of lower mileage and car being petrol not diesel, and for a dealer warranty,.

Yes I agree that the 9k one is a bit over the top.

    I found this http://m.carsireland.ie/detail.php?ad_id=1847744&r=s.php%3Fm%3D32%26o%3D282%26f%3D1%26g%3D7

It is an older year, but tax is only about 200 more, and it's the highest spec model AFAIK?

Nice low mileage also. Anything wrong with it that you guys can spot?

Yes it's on the expensive side but I would expect to get a discount off that 2010 for a straight deal. Doesn't matter whether it was manufactured in 2009 or 1999 it was registered in 2010 so it's a year younger than your car and will come with a main dealer's warranty which you don't offer.

There can be any number of other reasons other than price why your car isn't getting any interest. Insurance can also be an issue on the diesels for some people as it's 2.2 litre and we know insurance companies don't like "big" engines. Honda sold more 1.6 newer model Civic diesels than they did of the older 2.2 litre ones too.

    Looks nice on the pictures.
Low mileage is good thing, but probably lack of service history (but I assume that's typical to most cars sold in Ireland - I very seldom see ones that include service history). That's just something I'd be bit worried that even though low mileage, car could have had only one or two oil changes in 10 years or something.

Besides it's a low spec (SE model). It has heated leather seats as an extra, but is lacking other stuff from higher spec models, like front fog lights, cruise control, auto lights, auto wipers, dual zone climate control, etc...

I actually always found that puzzling.
Indeed people only look for reg year, not actual manufacture year.
Still - if car was manufactured in 2009, then it's a 8 year old car now, not like reg suggests 7 year old.

This one is a good example, being 2010 reg of pre-facelift model which was not manufactured since August 2009, so my 2009 reg car is actually newer.

Related to this subject, I remember seeing once 05 reg Fiat Bravo. It was for sale on donedeal a while ago.
Those have only been manufactured until 2001, so in 2005, someone bought a brand new car which was already 4 years old.
But most people thought it's a 2005 car, due to reg.
On the other hand, I had a 2001 bravo with 01 reg, which was probably preregistered in 2001, and first sold and first taxed in July 2002.
So that car was 2001 car, 01 reg, but first on the road in 2002.
Other was also 2001 car, 05 reg, and probably first used in 2005.

Makes not much sense to me.
Manufacture date would be much better to use to judge age of the car.

    True.
I think over 2 litre engine (due to insurance reasons), highish mileage, as well as rural location makes it hard for me to sell that car.
But while I still have it on donedeal, I actually changed my mind and not willing to sell it anymore.
I actually first though about selling early last year, and similar cars were going for around €8000. I didn't advertise then.
Was planning on advertising around November last year, but by then it was after brexit referendum, and similar cars were already around €7000.
I first advertised February this year for €6700 (trying to sell for €6500), and then reduced to €6200 (tryiung to sell for €6000). No interest so gave up.
Now advertised again last week for €5350 (was willing to sell for around €5000), and still no interest whatsoever. So not worth selling IMO.

Very rough bodywork for car of this mileage. Couple dents around the panels but main concern was, about two dozen dents on the roof, apparently from hail?

The clutch felt very heavy and spongey, i assume this is bad?

I wonder will a jug of hot water pull them out lol.

Nope. Clutches on those should be light. I've 220 on mine and it's still very light.
