MyTaxi App

They suck, Hailo was 10 times better.

Jumped in a cab today. I was in town and the only reason I took it was because I wanted to pay with credit card. Guy lashes on €2 booking fee plus €1 for the extra passenger. Apparently myTaxi sent out an email last week but I've checked every mail from them and I don't see it.

So I try to contact them through the app to ask when the story was, nothing you can do with the app except hail a taxi.

A few other times I've ordered a taxi and the send a private car and proclaimed I was getting a free upgrade but the journey turned out to be €10 more expensive.

I'm done with them, Uber all the way now. In fact I wish Uber could operate here like they do in other countries. So sick of artificially high taxi prices.

They keep sending me promo codes. I used the app once when my car broke down. I'll pm code if anyone wants it?

Hailo was my lifesaver when I couldn't drive. I've heard so many people complain about MyTaxi.

Agree the Hailo app was way better.
The 2 quid hike was well flagged 2 weeks ago, I think it's too steep so won't use it anymore.

But how do you mean "Uber all the way now" and yet give the impression that you live in Ireland? Uber AFAIK doesn't operate here.

They did send out emails. I find the fact that the card is on it really handy but I've had a few bad experiences. They also try to get you out of the card before typing in the amount to charge. I wait anymore cos they've added on a little for themselves before.
Tbf when i got that email i've only had one of maybe 4 add on the 2 euro.
So i'm going back to my usual app unless i get promos.

Is there another taxi app which doesn't add on a booking fee now?

I'm not sure how Uber still exists here, anytime I've looked at cars available there's like 3 in the whole of Dublin available,

Not that I know of. Luckily I'm in Dublin so can hail off the street or ring cab company.

Yup, I got an email and it was reported pretty widely in the media too.

It's too much of an increase on already high prices, I'll be taking fewer taxis now. I already have since the booking fee was brought in.

If you're in Galway none of the others charge the call out.

its 2 euro booking fee not 200.

Hailo was a way better, don't think the mytaxi works very well. I got a few drivers who have complained about it, saying its glitchy and crashes sometimes

    They blocked me!!

It was the strangest thing. I complained about a driver (after having paid full fare) who drove me from Drumcondra DART station to Rathmines via the 3 Arena.

Now I'm blocked by MyTaxi. Anyone else had this experience?

The tipping point can come in fine margins. For some, a €2 hike is too much.

Have to agree, that booking fee charge has always been there, it's just up to taxi operators to implement it or not

To the punters that translates as an increase though.

Uber works in Ireland. It just hails a taxi instead of an Uber.
€2 is not a lot, but I take taxis all the time so it adds up over time.
Maybe I missed the campaign but certainly didn't get an email about it. Perhaps the missed me but every other email from them have come through.

    Hi,

A bit surprised that no one has posted on this thread for six months, given I thought that a lot of people had historically used this service.

That said, it seems to be going from bad to worse, since they took over from Hailo.

The mapping and address system is unreliable. No matter how often I input and save my address, when I try to call a cab via the app it shows up the wrong address as my home. I've raised this with MyTaxi more than once, but they just try to fob me off with lose promises about intentions to upgrade their system.

I notice less and less taxis seem to be available on the system when I try to use it (both on and off peak). Whether this is because the taxis are usually busy, or because less taxis are using MyTaxi I'm not entirely sure - most taxi drivers that I've spoken to, tell me they are very unhappy with the app so not using the service full time, or in some instances not using it at all.

What also annoys me about the MyTaxi app is the way that it tries to force you to select a percentage of your fare as a tip, before you even get into the car that's been ordered. While you can reverse out of the option to tip, it's far from obvious.

Anyone used the Lynk Taxi app (or any others ?) as an alternative and if so, hows that working out ?

    Thanks,

    G.
