So we are planning to spend Christmas and New year in Budapest (Hungary).
I checked Ryanair which is going to cost 700€ for 2 person return ticket.
I checked other websites and found alternative route via Lufthansa which is for 550e (longer travel time).
The prices are high at the moment & I am wondering if it's due to the fact that we are 3 months away? Is it worth waiting few weeks? Or any other economical ticket available?

It's because it's Christmas time. You're unlikely get below the 500 mark for the time of year

Generally speaking airlines don't make profits in winter months, especially November, January and February. Flights then tend to be very cheap and often half empty. The only exception is Christmas, it's the busiest travel period of the year and so demand is high, and so are prices! It's when the airlines make their money.
