    Hey all,

Just wondering if you have any experiences in buying a dress from abroad? I've heard the horror stories but has anyone any positive experiences? :)

Hi, not sure what kind of distance you are looking at but, I bought mine from the UK over the phone and it's perfect. It was a terrifying couple of days waiting for it to arrive but I couldn't be happier :)

UK / eu should be fine.

China - avoid. It's full of scammers

Another option is Barnardo's bridal rooms

I bought my dress in David's Bridal, it worked out just fine!

I bought mine from the US, think it was called jj bridal or jays bridal but I think it has since closed. I had tried on and decided on the dress here but it was 1000 eur cheaper from the US. I had a friend living in the US so didn't need to get delivery all the way to here so didn't have any customs. Not sure if you normally would.

I also bought a dress online from one of the Chinese sellers, I think it only cost 80 eur or something so I took a chance on it. Was totally rubbish, the material was bad, no shape or support like a 'proper' dress has, and just no way you'd wear it as a wedding dress!

I think if you're going to buy abroad to just make sure it's a recommended seller by the dress designer. The place I was buying from was also a normal dress shop as well as online so that reassured me a bit as well. I think the savings depend on where the designer is based, e.g. Spanish designers aren't generally any cheaper in the US than they are here. Mine was an American designer so was cheaper there than here.

Jjs bridal is still online, my friend got her bm dresses there! Small fitting but good quality! She did have customs charges to pay when they landed!

Not sure if you're talking about buying online or actually just shipping it to Ireland but just to let you know I shipped mine from abroad:
bought it after trying it on in New York (RK Bridal), was nervous about the length of time it would take to order and ship here along with possibly of getting slammed with customs but it worked out completely fine. Got it in the time-frame I was told (I think about 5 months) and didn't have a huge amount of customs to pay. Had it altered and fitted properly here at home then obviously and it worked out great, probably a third of the price I would have had to pay here too.
