wifes 141 5 series with 100kms needs new pads and discs.

    BMW quoting €550 - seems a bit steep ?

easy enough and cheaper with an independent i presume.

Not DIY effort, moved out to main forum.

I've seen 400 for similar jobs.
Get quotes from local mechanics and see.
if you want recommendations then tell us what country you're in.

Interested in this too for my 132 320D. Got a quote of 600 for my front pads and disc in Keary's Cork.

the prices quoted are all main dealer prices. try to find a local bmw specialist.

€550 isn't actually a bad price for the 5 Series from a main dealer. Those cars have 2 piece brake discs with an alloy bell which are pretty expensive. You'd be looking at €425 or so for supply and fit of genuine discs with decent OEM quality pads plus wear sensor from an independent. Cheaper single piece discs from decent suppliers are also available which would drop the price to €375 or so.

€600 for the 3 Series seems steep. You'd get it done for half that price in an independent using good quality parts (Jurid, Brembo, ATE etc).

With a 2014 car you really should keep with main dealer

I have a 2011 F10 5 series and after buying it from main dealer I had 2 year warranty so took it to dealer for servicing.

Then after 2 years took it to independent specialist and never looked back.

I got front brakes+pads+sensors done last year at a cost of €450 - main dealer wanted €700 for same work (both OEM parts used).

A good few of garages have deals for pre-2010 e60s at the moment:

Could be worth seeing if you could twist their arm to do a deal on yours.
