No Tax Credits

    Hi,

Trying to help out an employee here.

Lady has just started work for me. She has not worked for a number of years but is receiving careers allowance. All her tax credits are assigned to her husband.

She contacted revenue to tell them she was starting with me and she was informed she would be very heavily taxed. I downloaded the P2C file and in it, it showed that she had no tax credits and no lower rate cut off point.

On her first weeks wages of €44, she brought home €26.

I was under the impression while her husband has her personal tax credits, she would have another €1650 by starting PAYE. Could it be a case that these are going against her careers allowance and thats why she has nothing against this employment?

The lady is very frustrated and confused so I said I would try and lend a hand. All advice appreciated

Exactly that. It's a taxable benefit, so it will have eaten up her tax credit & some of her standard rate cut off point as well

Thanks for that. Should it have taken up all her standard rate cut off do you think?

Pay her more than 44 euro a week, problem solved.

Maybe she only worked 4 or 4 and a half hours. No matter what the OP pays the employee will only bring home roughly 60% of her wage.

The employer is clearly trying to help here and silly comments like yours are no help at all.
