    Hi guys,

I was wondering. I own an Avensis from 2004.
Got installed a HID 5000K 35W kit past few days. A friend of mine told me that I need to install a normal H7 for NCT, while reading the RSA page, the've only mention that the must be installed in a proper headlamp. Well Avensis does have a projector lamp.

So what You think? Will the pass or fail the nct?

They need to have headlight washers these days. Only take a few minutes to change them back over

100% fail. Well did on mine. I just put normal H7 bulbs in for the test. Passes no problem.

    Fail. And paid retest.

Nct manual is pretty specific about this.

HIDs need to have auto levelling adjustment and washer system to pass.

No, they don't. Requirement for auto-levelling and washers exists only above threshold of 2000 lumens. If the source does not emit that, washers are not required.

I have 6000k in my E39 with washers and without auto levelling, passed no problem, once you have washers you should be good if the beam isn't all over the place.

It all depends on the tester, if they see an older car with projector style lights and washers you might get away with it.

But OP, please don't put HIDs in regular reflector headlights. It's EXTREMELY selfish and blinds everyone. These lights are not designed for that level of light. Rightly so it's an NCT fail.

There are strict rules when such light source is allowed. One rule actually - the light assembly need to be approved to HID light source, and the approved sources are listed on the glass.

Again not true. Projection lights give a very sharp light/dark boundary.

Please read my post again. I said reflector.

Bear on mind, the only lights that are approved for Hid bulbs will have ”DC” (for HID dipped beam), “DR” (for HID main beam), or “DCR” (if both are HID) marked on the lens. Fitting a Hid to a non-approved headlight is illegal.
