Tenerife-Santa Cruz

    Hi all,

I've booked flights to Tenerife at Christmas and a hotel in Santa Cruz called Occidental de Santa Cruz.

Main reason I booked this hotel is because of the quality for the price. Prices were mad and I do like a nice hotel so it was a compromise.

I've never been to Santa Cruz before but it seems like more of a city to me than a holiday resort.

    Anyone ever been?

    - S/C ? - Yes. Your hotel - no but I think it might be that one up the road from the Hotel Taburiente - if so its a quiet, safe area near the inner ring road.

Yes indeed. At this stage S/C and La Laguna are one urban sprawl.

Natives consider La Laguna to be penguin territory in winter

Just me, enjoy everything really, sightseeing, music, good food, spa treatments. Going to be there 6 nights from Christmas Eve.

Santa Cruz is a city yes not a holiday resort. One of the best beaches in the canaries 'playa de la teresitas' is a couple of miles north of santa cruz.

Only other tips I can give is you have a car tour the north of tenerife. Some spectacular sights in that part of the world.

Visited SC in February with my wife. We got a bus in, took a look around and got a bus back to the resort an hour later....lesson learned.
We stayed in peurto Cruz...much nicer.

There's a regular bus service from SC to everywhere on the island.
We hired a car for general travel around the island as it's some distance from the main airport and we had a very early flight home. We went with budget/Avis.

I recommend going to Mt Teide and going up the cable car. Book your slot online and wear something warm. It will have snow on it.
