Basically I would like out of IT, have thought about it for a while now. It's just not for me at this stage. Ideally I would like an electrical apprenticeship. Only thing keeping me in the game is the pay is great 35/40k. The desk job isn't for me. I like to be active and I am generally good with my hands and handy with basic DIY type stuff, wiring sockets, lights and light switches, keeping safe doing it turning power off.

I'm 28. But think I might be a bit old for an apprenticeship and my leaving isn't great I failed maths.

I am going back at the minute to do LC Maths. Anything else I could use or do to help a few months down the line?

I noticed a few places do it's based on Junior Cert the one I have is good on that front. Or is there any places out there hiring electrical apprentices on JC alone? Or which is the best way to approach this one.

Most of the bigger Elect Companies require LC maths - because there is a recent history of apprentices without it struggling

Solas/FAS AFAIK only require JC maths

you may find a company that will take you on without LC maths

there is a bit of a lull at the moment with the bigger Elect companies - particularly in Dublin area but should not be long before a few longterm projects start up.
If you can get on E&I apprenticeship would hhave better prospects longterm but nothing wrong with Elect
Depending on the company you will get €12k-€18k for first yr rising to min €45k-€55k when qualified

The money thing is a bit of a bummer but over all once I am happier working I don't see it as an issue. I just know I can't continue working in an office, just 2/3 years at it now and it isn't for me at all.

The idea of getting an electrical apprenticeship appeals more to me as it could branch off into other areas if I wanted to upskill once qualified.

Just the maths is letting me down at the moment. But I should pass it this time. Just while I wait is there anything I could do, maybe basic stuff like, Safe Pass, Manual handling and is there any small introduction courses I could do, just so the CV looks a bit better and my interest comes across.

Did you ever find someone to take you on
