04 Mk5 1.4 Golf - battery light flashing

    Hi everyone,
I have a 1.4 Mk5 Golf and have a problem with the battery light flashing while I am driving. There does not seem to be any pattern when the light flashes and seems very random when it flashes. The battery light usually indicates the alternator is on the way out but it has been flashing intermittently for the last 3/4 weeks and car still starts on the button, full power steering and all electrics. The belt that drives the alternator doesn't seem to be slipping as its fairly tight. I also checked the voltage coming off the battery when the car is started and when its off and the battery is holding charge. The only thing that might give someone a hint is when I'm on the motorway at constant revs, the light doesn't flash. Apart from that the car is driving perfect, which is why I haven't been to bothered getting anyone to look at it and I have been busy the last few weeks. I'm presuming its either the alternator, the battery, or an electric fault somewhere along the line. The light flashing on my dash is starting to annoy me now so if anyone has an idea what is wrong or has had a similar experience please help me out.
    Thanks

Have a look at the pulley on your alternator, think they have a clutch in them on that model...if that has failed you may experience the symptoms you are describing along with some screeching noisees at certain RPMs
