If she has it, and I suppose I have no reason to doubt her, then her symptoms can't be too bad if she is able to do her radio programme each day.

I have had a real bad flu once in my life, and it floored me for nearly a week. Couldn't get out of bed, even if I had wanted to.

Now if Ciara has it, it must be less serious than a bad flu or she wouldn't be able to continue to work. I'm guessing she is positive but is one with very mild symptoms.

She's a 48 year old healthy woman, not remotely in any of the high risk categories. For the vast majority, all they will experience are flu-like symptoms.

    I prefer sarcastic apologies...

Ignoring the fact that on top of your expertise in psychology you also know her medical history. That's impressive.

Btw she did mention yesterday on Primetime she has mild asthma. I might be wrong but I think those with asthma are among riskier groups.

About testing I'm pretty sure they do risk assessment who to test first. I suspect if you call with a bit of a sore throat, live on your own and don't have other health issue you will put at the end of the queue (I'm imagining criteria, I don't know what it is but they certainly have one). Going on about the plebs not getting tests and so on is completely ridiculous. They have to prioritize. I imagine there are people who get results in a day if they are in more risky group.

Untrue. Testing is conducted as quickly as possible in all cases, but there are no preferential treatments or exceptions made. The first tests were taking just over 24hours. They're now taking 48+.

How do I know this? Because I work in Healthcare. Our frontline staff (incl. Consultants and ICU Nurses) get no preferential treatment over members of the public, and believe it or not they're more important than a non-practicing GP.

I am aware of this. Also aware that debating without resorting to insults is apparently not something you're capable of.

She is non-practicing - she has stated more than once she hasn't practicesd in over 2 years. If she hasn't kept up her CME (Continuous Medical Education) throughout her 2 years plus on the radio she won't be allowed to practice again until she gains enough CME ppoints to re-enter the GP Scheme (bar a blanket exemption for healthcare professional given exceptional times we are in). It's not as simple as 'once a doctor, always a doctor'.

She's still registered to practise medicine in Ireland, The Medical Council register is in the public domain.
You can check here to verify that a doctor is registered to practise medicine in Ireland, and you can also check a doctor's qualifications through this facility. By law all doctors have to register with the Medical Council in order to practise, and doctors can only practise independently as specialists if they have specialist registration.

Her registration number is 021248. As an aside, Leo varadkar is not on the register.

I didn't hear what you say she said, but I suspect she meant that she hasn't worked in her practice, where she presumably employs a locum, not that she's non-practising.

You might be shocked but not everything is about you. And if you didn't hear of Tommy Robinson that points to being poorly informed.

I'm not going to go into any more discussions about the post pages ago but yes I do believe you use critical thinking as a pretense to doubt someone just because you don't like them. That's not critical thinking and critical consumption of media that's just acting according to your own bias.

So you can't provide the quotes to support your claims? Were you just flat out making stuff up then? To be honest I think you were, bad form in my view, I haven't misquoted you.

Why won't you stand by your comment about despising people?

She said she would re-register as a GP.

But I'm sorry, I'm gone from this thread.

    Congrats haters. You win.

Why does everyone still call her Dr Ciara Kelly when shes out of that profession a long time ago? I live beside a lad that used work in a pub i dont call him barman Whacker Reilly. Whats that all about. Stinks of pomposity.

People only refer to her in this way when it is in an appropriate context such as discussing medical issues.

You won't hear people on her show calling her Dr in the regular run of things.

She said she hasn't practiced for over 2years.

If it's anything like the professional requirements for solicitors, I suspect it's like this:

Take Miriam O'Callaghan. She's a qualified solicitor, but doesn't take out a practising certificate nor keep up with CPE. Thus she would not be legally entitled to practise. She is a non-practising solicitor.

On the other hand, there are very many retired solicitors, who may not have been inside an office or seen any clients in years, but who continue to take out the annual practising cert and keep up with their CPE requirements (necessary to be able to take out a practising cert). They are legally entitled to practise and hold themselves out as practising solicitors, even if they don't currently work as one.

Not the point, as I'm sure you know. She has it in her twitter handle, in her Indo and Sindo columns etc.

And is it really approriate in a medical context if she's non-practicing?

I stand by my comments. However I really can't stand by how you interpret them. And considering I already accused you of bias in your approach it's perfectly predictable for me. So no I don't know by what comments I'm not standing or what quotes should I provide. Don't bother explaining though because I won't provide any of them. What I posted is perfectly adequate for the level of this thread and I have no intention looking for quotes I should provide for I don't know what.

I'm not even convinced she has covid-19, the media tells so many fcukin lies on a daily basis that nothing would surprise me. They'll do anything and everything they can to milk a story and generate publicity.

Can you give some examples of these daily lies? "The media" is a fairly broad term, which media in particular is lying to us and about what?

In fairness I've only quoted you directly in my responses whereas you've come out with semi-coherent clangers like:

"And I didn't said I hate, I said I despise because going on you are not believing everything traditional media serves you and then repeat any nonsense Tommy Robinson (for example, you can replace him with any other questionable source) puts out is clear sign of complete dishonesty."

Then failed to provide a single quote of mine where I a). made a distinction between 'traditional' and 'alternative' media or b) 'repeated' anything from people like Tommy Robinson (who I'd never even heard of!)

Ps, I'm happy to see you're finally standing by your comment about despising potentially quite a lot of people. Hate's a bad thing though, free yourself of it.

I also said not everything is about you. You obviously missed out that among all my quotes.

    despise
    /dɪˈspʌɪz/
    Learn to pronounce
    verb
feel contempt or a deep repugnance for

    hate
    /heɪt/
    Learn to pronounce
    verb
    feel intense dislike for.

I'm not a native English speaker but those two look a bit different to me.

They don't tell lies, I was wrong and I admit it.

Nobody in the media has ever told lies or fabricated or exaggerated or any of that stuff, I learned that yesterday, you must have missed my eureka moment:

"I've provoked quite a few thoughts in fairness, but I've also learned a few things myself, such as:

    1. The media never tells lies
    2. Doctors are incapable of telling lies
    3. Anyone who questions either of the above is a wrongin'
    4. Also I think someone said Ciara was a vampire a couple of posts back, which was interesting."

So there you have it, not only am I a genuis, but I'm also humble :-)

No I got that one, cheers.

    Any luck with the rest?

In communication the mistake can happen at the messenger's end, during the transition and at the receiver 's end. At least one person here has completely scrambled receiver.

    No luck then Ted.

Ps, I have a beautiful receiver I'll have you know but I'm a giver myself ;-)

I have nothing to do with the other 2, I just read a post of yours and asked a question which you don't seem to want to answer.

So she's pretending to have Covid-19 now?? Outrageous accusation. Some of you have truly lost the plot.

She may not be pretending that she has COVID-19, but she's certainly pretending that it presents a serious threat to her life.

Have you opened a newspaper in the last few weeks?
