GP/Hospital costs and medical card

    Hey Everyone,

Hoping you may be able to shed some light on this one for me.

Ive been overseas for spell and ive been working part time for the past couple of months. Im currently claiming Jobseekers Allowance and ive applied for a medical card, I think i should quality for the full card.

I applied for the card nearly 3 months back and im still waiting for an update, every time i send in a new form/document it takes them 4 weeks to get back to me.

I went to see my GP today, I was charged 55e, is this refundable from the state?

To the main point anyway, I've been referred me to a hospital for some investigation into some symptoms im displaying. I know the private charges for this would be 3k+.

Im wondering are they comparable on the public system? Will I not pay if im waiting or in receipt of a medical card? If it takes 6 months to see someone at the hospital and I lose my medical card eligibility in the interim will I have to pay full whack??

Thanks in advance for anyone reading who may be able to help.
