madness, what an under rated band.

Really great song writing that captured the essence of the times.

Come across as really nice guys too.

Am a big Madness fan... so many good songs and really talented song writing...it must be love is a perfect pop song, they have a huge catalogue.

Right Siad Fred are a tribute act from the Middle East I think.

very Only fools and horses about them.

off topic but OFAH is actually one of the most realistic sitcoms ever made, you swear they were not actors

i was only born in 1989 but id say it was amazing growing up in the 80's with all the wonderful acts around (most in there prime too). Reeling in the years really aided my love of 80's/90's music :D

The Pet Shop Boys v Erasure maybe? Right Said Fred v Bros? Madness v The Specials? Prince Buster shades them all, but he was never going to achieve what Chopin did in fairness. I'd pick George Clinton if he was an option, but he's not.

I prefer The Specials over Madness, but the breakthrough hits from both bands were Prince Buster covers from the 60s ;)

In my opinion Madness better songs... have withstood time more than specials...for example our house still sounds current

Specials AKA done that, not The Specials proper. It doesn't sound like anything they released previously so it's not a great reference. It does still ring through mind, if nelson mandala gets replaced by <insert name>.
Madness are great, they please the crowds and get everyone dancing.
The Specials however were always very topical. A lot of their best music was based on tribulations of being young, unemployed and having the wrong postcode in Thatcherite Britain.
The funny thing is, if it weren't for the old witch herself they never would have been so big.
