I bought a duster recently when I fill the tank I only get7/8 bars lighting up on fuel gauge. Does anyone get full 8 bars to light up when tank is full?

There was a couple of fuel reading problems with these. Both caused by brimming the tank up to the filler neck.

One was where the gause in the filler neck would become dislodged making it very difficult to fill with fuel going forward, making the pump click out very frequently, moreso the more full the tank gets.

The other was the fuel level sender going out of calibration by the tank being brimmed too far full and constantly reading full/ near full no matter how little was in the tank. Not sure of the rational behind it.

Both require a dealer visit to fix. If you are consistently not getting 8 bars I'd go back to the dealer.

Thanks for swift reply. Did you have this problem yourself?is it a big job to fix this?

Both are handy fixed and should be covered by your warranty, if it has one.

No issues on mine. What light is on when you fill up and how many litres are you putting in?

Full tank goes in approximately 50 litres.

Have you filled your tank and gotten 8 bars to light up on your fuel gauge?

That doesn't quite answer the questions.

So you are putting in 50 litres in one fill, ie from pretty much empty? Or are you topping up existing fuel?

    Topping up existing fuel

Ok. How many bars typically on it when you top up, and how many litres do you put in?

The fuel gauge has a total of 8 bars. I typically fill it when it has 6 out of 8 bars. This would be approximately 20 litres of diesel fuel and would mean filling it to the point that the tank cannot take anymore fuel as the nosel cuts out etc.

Why are you topping it up so soon??

2 bars should not equal 20 litres! Sounds like something very wrong with the reader. Let it run low next time and then give it a go.

Thanks. That seems to be the advice most people have.

Similar problem with a few bmws I've had, seemed to occur when briming, but only using a small amount to do so, or when only adding small amounts of fuel.

Usually corrected itself when it was run very low, and brimmed again.
