Eir Fibre F2000 2.4 GHz band problem

    Hi all,

Wanted to report this because it took a lot of head scratching and figuring out.

Had a problem where my WiFi speeds were really bad on my 2.4Ghz network but fine on the 5Ghz network.
I have Eir Fibre and the F2000 modem.
Eventually, after 2 or 3 days I would have to reboot the modem as the 2.4Ghz network would become unresponsive while anything wired directly to the modem or on the 5Ghz wireless network was fine.
Turns out the problem was with the combination of 2 Sonos Play 1 speakers and Sky Q with a Sky mini in another room.
Both of these systems create their own mesh networks over the 2.4Ghz band and this was causing a broadcast storm.
I had the Eir router replaced as I thought it was faulty before I figured this out!

To fix it, I used home plugs to wire the Sky mini (upstairs) directly to the router and have the main sky Q directly connected to the router as both of these are downstairs.
Then I went into the engineering menu on both Sky boxes and disabled WiFi.

With Sky now completely wired I was able to use the Sonos as normal wirelessly over the 2.4Ghz and all is fine.

No more speed problems and no more need to reboot the router!

Hope this helps people as Sky or Sonos aren’t calling out the issue and Eir haven’t a clue about it.

This isn't a device specific issue, its a limitation of sharing 3 useable channels between 3 networks + all your neighbors devices.

No, I don’t have neighbours close enough to have channel interference.
It’s simply a problem for people who have Sonos devices and Sky Q multiroom.
It’s probably not specific to Eir routers either, you’re right there.
It’s simply caused by the 2 mesh networks that Sky Q and Sonos automatically create by default.
