    Hi,

Need a recommendation for an Indy guy to do a timing belt + water pump replacement on a Golf Mk5 1.4..

Definitely not wanting to pay dealership rates

    North Dublin City/County based

If I sourced the parts - how much would fitting cost?

Not DIY, moved to main forum.

Your usually better not sourcing the parts yourself for numerous reasons.

I know you say you're not interested in paying main dealer prices but MSL park motors are doing an offer on those at the moment, €399 for a timing belt kit and water pump supplied and fitted which isn't that bad really.

You might get an independent to do it for €350.

Actually I've booked in with him. Very reasonable.

    This bit struck me
When is it time for a timing belt change?

A timing belt lasts up to 360,000 km, depending on model, engine and driving style. Nevertheless, have it checked every now and then – by, say, your Volkswagen Partner within your Service Intervals. Especially if you drive a lot of short distances, your Volkswagen is frequently left running while stationary (e.g. taxi) or if you have already driven more than 240,000 km. Tip: It is also best to have your new used car checked immediately.

Mechanic said should be changed once every 100km

Depends on the car, definitely some VW engines need new TB every 100k km or 4 years.
