Nope. The Gardai are a deeply racist organisation.

90% of white applicants can't get in , what chance has a black one? :D

Any evidence to back that claim?

There's loads of black guards according to the latest garda figures. I've no reason to doubt them.

I've seen a couple of Asian Gardai, but never a black one.

Can't recall ever seeing a non "white Irish" Garda

I have seen a few Mexican Gardaí.

    Lack of black Gardai.

Garda recruitment is based on the 'Terry's exclusion rule' - no black or orange.

Also another observation, I live in rural Ireland and l don't think an ethic minority Garda could make an arrest of any of the bucks around here.

As Ireland continues to become more diverse, is this an issue that needs to be addressed by some sort of policy

    PLEASE!!!!

    Spare us another ****ing policy!!!

I literally cannot take another one!

In response to the OP I've never seen a Black Garda

    I have seen:
    Asian
    White
    Hispanic

    I've not seen:
    Black
    Middle Eastern
    Far East
Inuit (Would love to see Inuit Garda, I'd say they take no sh*t.)

I'm sure if black people wanted to join they would be accepted if they met the necessary criteria or do you think we should make an exception for them and apply different criteria to their applications? (Leaving irish language aside as there is already an irish exemption for non irish people)

    Not really.

The best person should be picked for the job regardless of their colour.

No point putting in a few black or brown lads just to mix it up a bit and look good for the PC crowd if they aren't up to the job.

    **** that.

Get a few Gurkha is as Gardai.

In fact, get a few hundred in and unleash them on Dublin City.
Crime would be cleared up in 90 days.

We need Sikh gardai armed with kirpans. Although I believe the gards have a ban on beards in place.

There was a black guard who used to present Garda Patrol in the 80's, well to be specific he was mixed race.

No beards, visible tattoos or grotesque jewellery allowed. Which rules out a career in the Gardai for those identikit 'I work in a barber' lads at any point.

People need to worry about the Guards getting their house in order first. Like not falsifying breath tests, accusing whistle-blowers of child molestation and being corrupt to the bone. Then we can all worry about diversity..

Very true. Lot of reform required. Pat kenny show currently discussing this

There used to be a Chinese cop in Cork City, young lads in Barrack St used to give him dog's abuse.

No any guards I've come across have been Irish personally.

    Joking.

I've seen an Asian guard and I know a Lithuanian (by birth) guard but he's as Irish as me so that doesn't count

What's the difference between these two? Genuine question.

In the UK, "Asian" often refers to the Indian/Pakistani region, whereas here in Ireland "Asian" usually means Chinese/Japanese/Korean region.

To be fair, the accusations against Maurice McCabe didn't appear out of thin air. The story around it appearing on a Tusla file is suspicious AF, but there is an actual person behind the claims of inappropriate conduct against Garda McCabe, it wasn't just made up.

The first black Gardai joined in the mid 80's, one male and one female. They had the same surname but were not related. The female Garda was stationed in Pearse St and I think he was in Store St.
