There is a deal in the Nespresso boutiques and store concessions for the Inissia machine, reduced from 99e to 69e. Having bought one in Arnotts today for 69e, I later spotted the same machines for sale in Debenhams, Dublin for 58e.

The Arnotts one was promptly returned!

I saw one of these and was tempted to buy one but the pods are a fortune to buy.

My misses used to always get a coffee on the school run. Since I got her a machine she’s doesn’t as she makes it before she’s goes. Saves about 2 euro a morning.

Not in Aldi they aren't ;) €2 for 10 IIRC, in 5 varieties

Haven't bought Nespresso pods since my €90 store credit ran out

SuperValu do pods too... 10 for €2. If your local shop has them, the Java pods are nicest. Lavazza make compatible pods too, I haven't seen them here, but picked some up in Germany last time I was there. Also nice, but obviously that's not much of a bargain if you can't get them here!

Have been using Lidl blue capsules for years now. However L'OR pods on offer in quiet a few supermarkets at the moment, 20 for €5 in about 4 different types - I find them very nice.

At that price the l'or ones might be worth it, do the packages say if they are 100% arabica, I can't stand robusta gives me an awful taste of tyres.

The lidl ones are reasonable, aldi and supervalu on the otherhand I find taste like stale robert roberts cafetiere coffee with a lot of larger fines and not much crema.

The cheap ones seem to break the machines. Any broken machine I’ve seen has being using the cheap pods

I have been using the Aldi Ristretto & Espresso ones for a while. No problems with the machine. Taste is as good as any I have tried & no issues with lack of crema either.

The Aldi ones are marked as having won a Which? Best Buy

Bought the one I linked for a present and it does not come with any store credit but has 20 capsules in the box

Just make sure you check the best before date on that included capsules.

On a recent purchase at Debenhams the included capsules expired in 2016 and a replacement offered expired in 2015.

Doesn't say boss, but of all the different ones I've tried, they're rank right up there for me as being pretty decent. I like the purple ones best.

Nope you can buy it anywhere, there's a card with a voucher code in the box to claim the Areo thingy when you buy 150 capsules.

Starbucks also do compatibles pods now aswell.

Cheers picked some up in supervalu 2 for €5 as you said, tried the lungo and espresso definitely worth the extra few cents at that price.

There are / were some combinations that are problematic but a quick google should be enough to see if there are issues with your machine. Some nespresso machines were specifically redesigned around 2013 to break compatibility with the heavy plastic capsules available at the time and Lor says their aluminium ones are not compatible with of Expert®*, U®*, Umilk®* and Prodigio®* models bought after 25 July 2016

The lidl and similar foil wrapped capsules avoid a lot of the issues as they are preperforated and slightly shorter so they don't foul the flimsier injectors.

I know lots of people running compatibles for years without issues. I paid €15 for my inissia on donedeal and I've run hundreds of compatibles through it. My brother run thousands through his essenza inissia machines.

A lot of the failures I've seen attributed to capsules I could equally attribute to user error e.g. pushing the lever with 50 times the normal force until something breaks rather than realising maybe the capsule doesn't fit / is jammed / isn't perforating. Or repeatedly running the pump when the capsule clearly hasn't perforated or is barely perforated.

Got them today . Great deal

Anyone have the issue with coffee not hot enough with nespresso machines.
It was made with just regular room temp cup
I'll try using hot water to heat the cup next time

Defo hot water the cup if you like it much hotter.

it depends which machine you have.
on my old machine you had to preheat the cup with hot water but its proper scaldy with the new machine.

Is the Aeroccino milk frother much use ?I see its part of the a promotion when you buy this machine.Buy 150 capsules and get the frother .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,635 ✭✭✭donegal.

nope, its a gimmick . I used mine a few times and it hasn't come out of the box since.

I'd recommend getting it anyway. 150 capsules is not a lot (if you can afford to get them all at once) and if you don't want a frother you can always sell it. You'd probably get €40/€50 for it.

I always use the aeroccino. Makes a lovely milky coffee

I got a Inissa in Jan of this year and the Aldi pods are not compatible. They are the tiniest bit smaller so the machine does not perforate them correctly (unless I'm doing something wrong). Must try out the SuperValu pods.

Yep, find the same with the Aldi ones on the Pixie model. Never had any bother with Lidl, Robert Robert, or Starbucks pods.

Have had the Aldi ones melt and deform. Even when it does perforate you can tell the machine is under pressure to pump it. Had the same thing happen on Inissia at work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,077 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

I have had a Pixie for five years, and have only once bought Nespresso pods - machine is as good as the day I bought it! I have tried all the pods - including bringing pods home from France before we could buy them in the supermarket here. Supervalu have been successful for me, but I like the new Aldi ones and the L'Or ones. Great to have the choice, especially as the Nespresso shop does my head in.

Re the aerochino, I have it even though I don't take milk in coffee - for people who like hot frothy milk in coffee, it is a big hit - very easy to use and to wash.

Hi Vienne86 , I drink coffee, but mainly cappuccino and I like them hot and frothy, would you recommend this deal?? I don't know what's the difference between the machines on offer at the moment , innisia, prodigio etc or do I just need an aerochino? Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,537 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

If you like cappuccino then you need a nespresso machine for the coffee and a frother (nespresso frother is called aeroccino) for the milk.

The coffee out of any of the nespresso machines is the same either way.

Dumb question I know but what's the main difference between all the machines on offer assuming they all cater for espressos??

I had about an 80% success rate with the aldi ones in my inissia didn't like any of them though. The lidl ones have no issues though because they are preperforated the lungo is OK. The l'or lungo is better and also works great in my inissia.

The XN100140 (Harvey Norman) is manufactured by Krups and the 11350 (Debenhams) is manufactured by Magimix.

Thanks guys. Wattage and bar pressure appear to be the same. Do these things make a decent cup of coffee ? I'm not looking for high end but if I thought there's something better out there under 100 I'd consider it.

Coffee purists obviously don't like them as they're not up there with the best, but for the masses it makes a decent coffee with minimal fuss.

I have a gaggia machine and grinder too as well as nespresso. Nespresso is not on par with fresh beans in a decent machine but its faster, simpler and a lot less cleaning and still a lot better than 90% of coffee you'll get outside a decent coffee shop. It also means that the wife and kids can make a reasonable coffee whereas the gaggia is too much of a faff for them.

Main thing to bear in mind is that its only 5g of coffee in each pod which is ok for espresso, for lungo I think 110ml is a stretch with 5g. If you want a mug of coffee you're going to need two pods. The mistake I see people make is pressing the button a second time to make a mug, pushing 180-200ml of water through a capsule this produces a horrible overextracted dishwater cup of coffee. If you want to dilute it americano style use water from a kettle.

I used to have a Nespresso replaced it with a bean to cup last year from the Amazon warehouse got it for 185 euros.

Best thing I have ever got.

Makes better coffee and works out cheaper in the long run as you can get a good KG of coffee for 14 euros. And 7g pair cup so near 120 cups from a bag. 8c a cup it works out.

Only issue is cleaning the machine out once a month inside the waste and drip tray is no different then cleaning the Nespresso.

If you like coffee well worth spending the extra

The Aldi pods are the same pods as Super Valu now. When they were in the longer Nespresso style packaging they were useless. The best value metal type are the L'Or ones for €3 in Super Valu and Dunnes.

That said, I've used Aldi, Lidl, and Super Valu for years and the machine is fine.

L'Or are on special offer on both Dunnes and supervalu, 2x boxes of 10 for €5. They're aluminium pod which I find makes much nicer coffee. I'm loving the strength 10.

Have a look on the Amazon warehouse.

    Free post as well.

I got one for my father for his birthday for 200 from Germany posted. The same one is 550 in Currys.

There boxes with loads of marks from the warehouse but you still get the same cover as you would from normal Amazon

Horses for courses. Before about 10 a.m., I like a long coffee with cold milk - I use a filter or cafetiere and wouldn't dream of using the Nesoresso for this. Later in the day, it's espressos for me, and the Nespresso does a great job and is much handier than a regular espresso machine.
