So sad to hear of Jimmy Magee's passing. A national treasure, legend of Irish sports broadcasting and an inspiration to many. An absolute gent too. Met him once briefly, about 8 years ago, at Shelbourne Park and got chatting to him about the great Australian miler Herb Elliot, and just couldn't shut him up. Such a passion for sport he had. Tried to find a sport he didn't know much about. I settled on ice hockey. He said he didn't know much about it. Thought I had him. Then he starts talking about Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Bobby Orr!! A once in a lifetime guy he was.

A true great was Jimmy. Loved his sport and loved imparting his knowledge. Had a real love for boxing.
