Too late in year to put in flower bed?

    hello...Over the next couple of weeks I am hoping to plant up a new flower bed that has been prepared...but is this a silly idea heading into the winter months?

    It will be a bed of cottage style perennials and herbs....

    Depends, if you want it for this year it's pointless as everything will be dying back in next couple weeks. However if you're doing it with next spring/summer in mind then work away. Many of the garden centres will be selling off perenials cheaply now too so it'd be good time to buy with next year in mind
