Why is the necessity to mention the surname along with first name from the host? Mainly Claire Brock.

Should mention it’s mainly male guests that she calls it’s out on.

    Claire looking amazing tonight 😍😍😍

She needs to let her guests speak. Very ignorant snapping in on people making a point.

Mick Clifford talking about mo fatah being trafficked and he keeps calling him mo Salah 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah when the councillor mentioned women didn't feel safe walking the streets he was immediatly cut off.

Then back in the studio the Labour one was a right dose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,768 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

Cowen was in no humour to be listening to Farrell screeching beside him last night.

He wasn't long shutting Brock down either when she tried to bring up his own case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,179 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Cowen working his way back into favour and a plum job by being FG's 16th man.

How politics have been changed here.

Fitzmaurice seemed a bit agressive last night, he is usually level headed but he let Gibbons get under his skin and it was all downhill after that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,503 ✭✭✭✭Mad_maxx

Yep , he’s a decent skin but the thick as sh1t farmer escapes sometimes, his use of the term “ ethnic cleansing “ was hysterically over the top, Gibbons is insufferably smug (90% of the time) but he was right here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,768 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

That Labour one was some dose, no wonder her party is going down the drain.

And of course they had to have an "activist" on as well.

The guy from Lismore argued his point well considering most of the panel including Brock were libs.

Free reign for Neale Richmond to waffle on and on tonight

Is it just me or has the government realised there is an election coming up and has started to turn far right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,087 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

Why is John McGuirk on this so often? Is he the only 'contrary' voice on immigration they can find who is vaguely articulate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,056 ✭✭✭Gen.Zhukov

It's okay though. Catherine Day is out batting for them...again! - Govt know that we are just hanging on every one of her words, so it'll be fine

He'd be more articulate if they'd let him speak - I see Alison O'Connor took the shilling...

    ...which is nice

Anyone watching this tonight. Who is the guy with the fine head of hair? I only started to watch it a few minutes ago.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

    She’s everywhere, ex trinity head.

    Now Ivana spouting nonsense.

Seen one of these poor boyos fleeing a war supposedly earlier on the news.

That Cynthia Ní Mhurchú is a truly appalling woman.

    That is all

Thought she was great, only one putting it up to Moscow Mick.

screeching, roaring and looking at everyone with disdain! She's unbearable. A big NO from me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,056 ✭✭✭Gen.Zhukov

I've met many like her in my life - I've learned to spot them from kilometers away - She's nasty to the core

I'd imagine she left a trail of destruction in her wake

Anyone got a saucer of milk, I'm parched….:pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,193 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

That was a disaster of a debate if you want to call it that. Cynthia Ní Mhurchú is an aspiring warmonger so maybe she'd fit in well in Europe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,087 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

My dim memory of her as broadcaster back in the day is of a fairly bland emollient magazine show/current affairs presenter. Maybe years as a barrister have turned her into the harridan we saw tonight.

reduced to two nights a week, not surprising, terrible hosts.

I gave up watching ages ago. It was a must watch when Browne was at the desk pity they let it decline so much.

The could save quite a bit of money by reducing The Six O'Clock Show by five nights a week to zero nights a week too.

And then put the savings, however meagre, into a decent presenter for the Tonight Show. What they have now as a product, is crap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭balanced24

And I really dislike the way they make sure we know they dislike certain guests.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭balanced24

I agree, it’s a loss in the sense of we got to see a lot more politicians than RTÉ features.

We need a BBC Question Time style show, the RTÉ Katie one isn’t it.

Never watch 6 O’Clock Show don’t know who that’s aimed at.

The Six O'Clock Show (aka The Seven O'Clock Show, aka Late Lunch Live), a Virgin Media version of The One Show! Xpose meets Ireland AM.

Ireland AM, News programming, The Six O'Clock Show and The Tonight Show are their to meet VMTV's required hours of programming. They won't drop The Six Show for to save so they can spend on more researchers for The Tonight Show.

Yes a Question Time style show where they move it around the country every week would be great, have a host with 2 local TD's for that area and 3 media/entertainment personalities in front of a live audience asking 5 or 6 topical questions to the panel.

The Tonight Show in Vin B's day did a brief stint of shows around the country in the lead up to an election some years back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭balanced24

I remember Browne going around the Country it was great. We’d be better off and engaged more having a show like that.

Very disappointing news. It's important that we have a private alternative to what RTE is offering.

And now their flagship current affairs programme is being reduced by 50%.

The media market in Ireland is so threadbare as it is.

The statement mentions that they are doing a documentary on the US Election and sending Richard Chambers to cover it. I'm not sure how this addresses their public service remit given that we can get US election news from about a million other sources.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,521 ✭✭✭RoTelly

I don't really see the reasoning for the cut other than being disappointed with RTÉ's Bail out.

TV3 used these programmes to fill space, you can litterally work it out from 1998 to now

    In 1998 : -

12PM | Speakeasy (an indo production)

    6PM | TV3 NEWS

    11PM | NEWS TONIGHT (2006)

    11:30 | SPORTS TONIGHT

    1999

    7AM | IRELAND AM (Starting with 2hrs)

    5:30 | TV3 NEWS @ 5:30 / Early edition

    7PM | TV3 NEWS @ 7 / later moved to 6:30 / then axed for Xpose

    2006 / 2015

    7AM | IRELAND AM (3hrs)

    10AM | The Morning Show / LATE LUNCH LIVE / 7 O'CLOCK SHOW / 6 O'CLOCK SHOW

    12PM | Midday / Elaine

    5:30 | TV3 NEWS @ 5:30

    7PM | TV3 NEWS @ 7 / later moved to 6:30 / then axed for Xpose

    11PM | THE TONIGHT SHOW

No reason to keep The Six O'Clock Show, it rarely gets into the top 20 shows, while tonight often does. Even drop an hour of Ireland AM or Ireland AM at the weekend.

Plenty of options, the regulator should really come in on this.

This is purely to get at the government and RTÉ IMO. Nothing more too it, I assume that The Group Chat remains and will replace it on Wednesday night!

I'm surprised they haven't just pulled the plugged on this, the show is terrible. There's a good opportunity for doing a show that's different to what rte give us

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭AJB39

A very vindictive decision by Virgin Media. I am assuming one the two presenters will either be moved or let go and the other presenter will host the two nights. I agree that they could have cut other programmes instead. The decision does seem deliberately intended to attack the government. I won’t watch the Group Chat because I can’t stand Richard Chambers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,959 ✭✭✭Bobson Dugnutt

Too much Paul Murphy. That’s a ratings disaster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,824 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

Does anyone watch The Group Chat?

It does look vindictive particularly just as we're about to have an election but Virgin Media have a point.

I don't know why RTE doesn't run Prime Time 3 times a week. I keep saying why on earth do they need 2 presenters. RTE having been getting away with this nonsense for decades and the government keep bailing them out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,099 ✭✭✭lukin

I'm disappointed by this news. Mainly because Claire Brock is very nice to look at so now I won't be able to drool over her as often 😀.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,521 ✭✭✭RoTelly

In fairness to RTÉ (why why do I defend RTÉ why? :) ) ….

They have 4 current affairs shows across the week TWIP, Upfront and Prime Time 2 nights a week.

My question for RTÉ why not run a late night current affairs show on RTÉ2 at 11pm or any news on the second channel for that matter and my second question is why do their current affairs shows begin taking breaks during the summer months.

In fairness to TV3/VMTV up until the exit of VB from The Tonight Show they would replace him with guest presenters in August.

No offence to the current presenters of The Tonight Show both are not as strong as their predecessors.

Many of these shows in the commercial sector rely on presenters who know their stuff inside and out, if you don't have many researchers or a weak team you have to have a strong presenter. Otherwise the show falls flat.

You can see this with news programming across newstalk, only for Pat "The Plank" Kenny most of the presenters are dull, wooden or desperately trying to sound controversial. I may give Moncreiff some credit for a light entertainment show in the afternoon, but it suffers because of the rest of the gang..

4 times a week for maybe 34 weeks a year. The other 18 we're left with one showing of Prime Time.

No reason for Prime Time not to be shown on Wednesday night in my view. And of course they reduce Prime Time to just once a week for 3 months in the summer. How does RTE still get away with this carry on?
