Anyone watch the show with Guy Martin last night on Ch4?

was pretty good, them guys work damn hard.

They mentioned though he was the first ever outsider to help out on a pit stop. Now I'm pretty sure I've seen it before at races, maybe not for Williams, but possibly something like Force India, Caterham.. one of the lower teams. Anyone ever remember this. Maybe someone from TV crew go in to help out

Ross Kemp did 3 races with Jordan but I don't recall if he did a pit stop.

ITV wanted to put Kemp into the Jordan pit crew. He was to hold the guard between the refuelling rig and the exhaust which at the time was coming out over the top of the "monkey seat" as it's been called now. It was a special they did for the British GP but as above I don't know if he did any actual live pit-stop

    This too shall pass.

Probably for F1, yes. Definitely not first in the world - Richard Hammond was the left-front tyre changer for Katherine Legge at the IndyCar race in Sonoma 2012.

Thought it was very good. Still have it and intend to watch it for a second time sometime when I get time,

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Only watched it last night, he seemed to integrate very easily into the team. It helped he had a background in mechanics as he was involved in rebuilding the car; I can't imagine the average punter off the street would've been let near the car to work on it.

What I didn't get (and I probably would if I watched it again), the first pit stop when he ran out with the tyre cover still on the tyre; was that his mistake or had the team made a mistake by making such a late call on the tyre type? Was he the only one that was reaching for the wrong tyre? It seemed like more of a scramble.

Gas hearing the accents of most of the Williams team - it was all "eh oop lad the boy done good".

Good show though, I liked it.

Sounds interesting....going to watch it now...although Guy Martin wouldn't be a complete novice by any means, being truck mechanic by trade....sure those little tyres would be no bother to him... ;-)

I think they made a last minute call and swapped whichever tyres they were putting on. I don't think he was even the last one out.

Do they not normally keep the covers on for as long as possible anyway?

Yeah but not when they're running out to the pit lane. I must rewatch it.
