looking at getting a small 7 seater. think its between these 3 2014/2015 vintage. main + points
    carens will have warranty
Verso have heard good reliability reports
Touran likewise around a while and solid.
any opinions I know rear seats in all are tight but mainly for bringing extra people occasionly

At that age the Verso has a BMW N47 diesel, an engine well known for problems with the timing chain. Having said that I wouldn't worry about it too much, Toyota insists on a 20,000 km service interval so it should be far less likely to suffer from the problem than BMWs with this engine.

Other than that it's down to personal preference, I would have said they were all pretty similar reliability wise.

on the note of known problems. I know kia have a 7yr warranty ( if full history by dealer etc) but do kias have much trouble as in would i need to use the warranty much ..i presume as the vw would be solid as it is a well established model

The kia would be well ahead of the vw and Toyota there in my opinion

thanks colm_mcm . id like the fact that even with a 2yr old car id have 5 yr warranty on the big things just in case.

I am looking at touran/picasso/carens myself in these days.

From reviews, Carens seems to be offering lower seating positions than others if that's important.

Make sure you read up on the warranty properly. The 7 years doesn't cover everything. After 3 years the amount of things it covers drops every year.

Audio, battery and paint not covered for seven years.

the big ones would be things like gearbox and engine. i know the warranty isnt valid if spurious parts used in replacements and you may need invoices etc.. was going to stick with dealer approved ones.

im not considering picasso as had a rental last year and didnt like it / have set mind about citreons

The touran rear seats are a good size adults will be ok once in them. But it's little awkward to get into them. Easiest way is to fold the seat in front for access. Tiny boot with seats up. Other than that it's basically the same as a golf.

am i right not to consider c4 Grand picasso ? every youtube review mentions them. mainly for space not sturdiness or reliability to be fair

if you are planning to keep the car long term, I would have more trust on Toyota and Kia for those aspects but French brands moved ahead a lot in last years regarding reliability.

While I'm not anti everything French on reliability grounds, I wouldn't buy the Citroen over the others if reliability is a concern, those 1.6 HDis can be trouble if they're not properly maintained.

    Prius+ maybe?

renault would be equal to citreon in my view. no evidence to back it up just hearsay etc.
re the prius think im too rural to benefit from the hybrid. usually zero traffic on my journey and wifes is usually short. but will check it out more. main use will be 3 high back boosters in 2nd row and 3rd row for occasional use.

The Peugot 5008 has 3 separate seats (with 3 isofix) in the 2nd row.

update to this old thread. went with toyota verso . so got a 161 in 2018 in the end. running good. had some trouble with a engine management light. mechanic says the bmw engine in it are prone to a bit of trouble. other than that 6 years of good running

neighbor in the meantime got a brand new kia carens and has changed it already as troublesome for a new car
