Will new employer know who was my last employer from p45?

So I recently left my job of 5 years for a contract job which I started 5 weeks ago. A permanent job I had applied for before I started the contract invited me for interview last week and I got the job.

I was only 4 weeks into the contract so I didn't think it was appropriate (just got the sense in the interview) to correct them when they talked about my current employer being the one I was with for 5 years. Also the contract job wasn't on my CV as I hadn't started when I applied for the permanent role.

The contract one won't be used for a reference but I was wondering could they tell from the p45 that I left earlier than I said I did?? If so is there a way around this?

    Thanks

You do not have to give a p45 to your new employer, you can simply phone revenue with the employers number.
