VW Golf Mk VII - problem with window

One of the door windows cannot be closed, it seems as if some mechanism in the door is broken as I hear a grinding noise when I hit the control button.

Is this a problem that needs to be dealt with by a VW garage?

Thanks for any information or advice.

Remove the door card and check.

Any garage could look after it really. What year is it?

August 2014. Do you know if it is likely to need a part, in which case, it may not be available in the smaller garages. That is why I was thinking I may as well go to the VW garage.

You're only out of manufacturers warranty by a fortnight. If you serviced it with a VW dealer I'd definitely be asking VW for goodwill on that.

If that falls through, an independent would have no issue sourcing whatever is necessary.

Thanks for that info Toyotafanboi - yes, the car has always been serviced with the VW dealer. Didn't consider the warranty issue - thanks for that. The interesting thing is that the rear windows are very seldom opened/closed, no more than a few occasions in total. Will definitely try the goodwill gesture, doubt if it will wash though.

If you've a full history from a particular dealer you stand a very good chance imo.

Thanks for your help here TFB - the garage covered the cost of labour and parts as a goodwill gesture. VW rejected the warranty extension request, adhering to the strict warranty period. Quite honestly, it would not have occurred to me to mention this without your input - thanks again.

What duration of warranty would Kia give on a Ceed with the equivalent issue ?

7 years from new and I don't think there's any extension on that for warranty work done in the last year.
