Hi, Can anyone tell me the process needed to get a D licence. The RSA website is clear as mud. I don't particularly need it but think it could be no harm in getting. Cheers

    Depends on age.

You need to do theory, then apply for learner permit with relevant documents such as psc card, proof of address, eye test, medical and fee for permit... Ndls don't need photos as they take digital one.

Im 30 with full Irish licence for 9 years. I have everything obviously bar the learner permit. Is it just a case of going to the Theory test centre and looking for an appointment, or is it a separate 1 for this particular licence

You book the theory test online for the D category. When you pass the theory test you apply for a learners permit. You then apply for the practical and CPC test.

Was thinking of doing the same thing. But as ssmith says, it's not uncomplicated!

Am i right in saying you only need the CPC if you are going to work driving buses?

Sounds like the OP is thinking what im looking at doing, doing the test and having category on my license, not necessarily using it for work

You'ĺl havs to do the case studies and the practial test... You wont be required to do the yearly course until you pln to use the licence

What's the point in having the licence if you don't use it?

I can speak French. I never do, but a situation could arrise where it would be handy. Similar to this license I think. at least if it was a case of wanting to use it for work Id need to do CPC courses rather then the whole license and test again
